At the time the Turkish danger, in the second half of the 16th century, the whole town was surrounded by ramparts and a moat. The greatest care was given to secure entry into the city on the main road from Merry in vitriol. Two gates were built with towers and bastions side. Gates came and still carry the name "Veselska" and "Skalická. Of the two gates have been preserved only bastion side. Town is dominated by the so-called "White Tower" at the church. The position of the early 17th century. At the time of hostile raids filled guard function.
