Framed between Sass Pordoi and Sass Becé, Pordoi Pass marks the border between the Province of Trento and the Province of Belluno. Located 12 km away from Canazei, it features as many as 28 hairpin bends. It is one of the 4 passes ofthe Dolomites Road, built in the beginning of the 20th century to link Bolzano with Cortina, and encourage the development of tourism in the Ladin valleys.
From the pass the Boé group is easily accessible thanks to a super state-of-the-art cable-way, which in a few minutes reaches the 2,950 metres a.s.l. of the Sass Pordoi. And from there one can enjoy a 360° view over the entire Alpine area, as well as challenge the demanding downhill slope of the fork bearing its name, or run down inaccessible Val Lasties (due to the peculiar features of these tracks, they are to be skied exclusively in ideal snow conditions). Furthermore, Pordoi allows easy access to the slopes of the Belvedere Ski Area and to those of Arabba. With the Sellaronda you can spend a full day without ever taking your skis off.
Lots of key pages of our history are connected with Pordoi: from the First World War battles, featured by the German Ossuary to Maria Piaz - a pioneer of tourism in Val di Fassa and sister to the famous alpinist Tita Piaz - and to sport initiatives such as the Giro d'Italia tour, which is commemorated by the monument dedicated to Fausto Coppi.
