The Regional Technical Museum company was established by The ŠKODA HOLDING joint-stock company and the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen with the intention to build a modern, interactive museum (often known as a science center) in the industrial estate of Škoda Company. On the supervisory board of this company, there are representatives of the town of Pilsen and the Pilsen region. The interactive museum project Techmania Science Center was originally called Technorama, after a Swiss science center.

The intention of both founders is to respond to the present situation, when there is a decreasing interest in technical fields. Science centers are understood as a time-tested means of increasing interest in science and technology. The main target groups are children and youth.
