The Premonstratensian Monastery in Želiv is a national heritage site, a popular place of pilgrimage, and a traditional destination for both Czech and foreign tourists seeking a calm place for spiritual regeneration and physical relaxation.
Just as in the past, even today the Monastery is a centre of spiritual life. Brothers led by Abbot Jáchym live within the community, taking care of the monastery’s property, which includes accommodation facilities, a brewery, a restaurant, forests, fields and fish ponds.
  • Regular tours are held every day during the tourist season (for times click here), taking in the monastery’s convent and the neighbouring Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, rebuilt after a fire in the early 18th century by famous Czech architect Jan Blažej Santini. The entire tour is barrier-free, accessible for visitors with limited mobility or in wheelchairs.
  • One of the local attractions is the brewery tour (for times click here), where you can taste traditional non-pasteurized and unfiltered beers.
  • Those who wish to stay a little longer and enjoy the beautiful nature and tranquillity, can use the lodgings in the old wing, where the abbot used to live.
  • We would also like to invite you to our monastery restaurant, where you can spend pleasant moments with your family or friends.
