The castle in Duchcov was only nearly saved from destruction because of coal mining. The imposing baroque building was built in the 2nd half of 16th century and later completed with English style park. The castle used to belong to House Wallenstein who invited many famous personages of their time (W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, J. W. Goethe and many others). The famous Giacommo Cassanova had been the castle librarian for thirteen years, as you can learn in the castle museum.
