The church of St. Nicholas was built in the first half of the 18th century by father-and-son architects Christopher and Kilian Dientzenhofer in the style of High Baroque.It is known as the most beautiful Czech Baroque building from an architectural perspective as well as the design appearance of the interior.

The wide main entrance of the church winds up with a 50-meter-high spacious dome (the highest interior in Prague); the outside height reaches almost eighty meters.

The opulent interior decorations are dominated by the ceiling, with frescoes on the main aisles by J. L. Kracker featuring motifs from the life of St. Nicholas , which, measuring around 1500 square meters, is among the largest in Europe.The larger-than-life statues put the finishing touches to the effect of the interior by I. F. Platzer and paintings by Karel Škréta.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played on the organ during his stay in Prague.Today, there are also concerts organized here.

The belfry with a view of Malá Strana is also publicly accessible.
