Hněvín Castle is a Most´s characteristic dominant, which is visible from far away. It was built in the middle of the 13th century on the top of a hill, in the past called the Castle Mountain (Zámecká hora). From 1596 the pharmacist Edward Kelley, the court alchymist of the Emperor Rudolf II., was imprisoned there, and after an unsuccessful escape from the castle prison the died there. Hněvín is a favourite place for the tourists, with a wide view of the Krušné Mountain Range and the Bohemian Highlands (České středohoří). In its premises there is a stylish restaurant, an open theatre scene, an astronomical observatory open to public, and the castle tower is used as a look-out tower.
