Not far from the towns of Chomutov and Most, you may come across the small mountain settlement of Lesná during your wanderings.
Of the original village with 29 house numbers, only five reconstructed or newly built buildings remain. One of them is the Krušné Mountains Museum, which was created as part of the project "Conveying Shared Historical Values of Folk Buildings and Lifestyles, Including Folk Art in the Krušné Mountains Region Seiffen/Lesná," supported by the Objective 3/Ziel 3 Program for cross-border cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Free State of Saxony (2007–2013). The museum is housed in the Krušné Mountains Folk House, which was built in 2010 based on historical documents and is a faithful replica of a house from 1873.
The museum offers visitors a permanent exhibition about the life of mountain dwellers approximately 100 years ago, which also includes a collection of restored old agricultural machines. The attic spaces are reserved for exhibitions related to the Krušné Mountains. As part of the public events held here, participants can try out "Forgotten Crafts" under the guidance of skilled instructors, an activity particularly popular among young people. Visitors can try baking bread or gingerbread, lace-making, wire work, pottery wheel work, weaving, spinning on a spinning wheel, and more.
The museum also features a newly built replica of a bell tower with a fully functional bell that strikes every hour and can serve as a landmark in fog or snowstorms. The museum in Lesná is open daily, with guided tours available on weekends, and admission is voluntary.
