Lion macaques have been bred by the Ostrava Zoo since 1978. All this time, these rare and endangered primates lived in relatively cramped spaces without natural vegetation. The old pavilion dates from 1966, is already completely inadequate and is due for demolition. Now the macaques have received a new and timeless breeding facility that offers them much more space, mature trees and general conditions important for their natural expressions and behavior.

The indigenous name Wanderu was also adopted into other languages, such as German, English, Polish, etc. Previously, they were also known by this name in our country, and "wanderers", as they were called, were relatively commonly bred. Today it is a very rare species even in human care.
